Overall

Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou province in southwestern China, is located in the eastern part of the Yunnan-Guizhou plateau. The city of Guiyang maintains its steady and fast economic growth with the support of a new model of industrial system featuring big data, modern agriculture, automotive manufacturing, service and high-tech industries. The government seeks to boost the local economy through innovation.[1]

Guiyang , named for its location to the south (the sun side) of Mount Gui, is also known by its short form "Zhu" or the elegant name "Jinzhu". As the capital of Guizhou Province, it serves as the province's political, economic, cultural, educational, scientific, technological, and transportation hub. It is also a major transportation and telecommunications nexus, an industrial base, and a commercial, trade, and tourism service center in Southwest China. Often referred to as the "Forest City" or "Fortress City", Guiyang is an important gateway connecting the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road.[2]

There are 56 ethnic groups in total, including Han, Miao, Bouyei, Tujia, Yi, Dong, Gelao, Bai, Hui, Manchu, Zhuang, Shui, Mongol, Li, Yao, and others. Among them, 11 are indigenous ethnic minorities, with the Miao and Bouyei peoples being the predominant groups.[2]

Location

Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou province in southwestern China, is located in the eastern part of the Yunnan-Guizhou plateau. Guiyang boasts complex and diverse natural environments, favorable hydrothermal conditions, and a wide variety of biological species. It is situated in the eastern part of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, which belongs to the second major step of China's terrain. The city lies within the subtropical zone and is an inland mountainous provincial capital characterized by high elevation, low latitude, mild winters, and cool summers.[3]

Natural Conditions

Guiyang falls within the subtropical (sub-tropical) plateau monsoon humid climate zone. Its overall climatic characteristics are as follows: mild winters without severe cold, cool summers without extreme heat, abundant thermal resources, a long frost-free period, ample precipitation with rainfall and heat occurring in the same season, frequent cloud cover with limited sunshine, low wind speeds, relatively high humidity, and pronounced vertical climatic variation. The combination of high altitude and low latitude gives rise to the city's famous slogan: "The Cool and Refreshing Guiyang" (or "Refreshing Guiyang").[3]
